“In the Heights” wins Best Musical at the 2008 Tony Awards! This Latin-pop Broadway show tackles emotion, love, family, and hard work in the Manhattan barrio of Washington Heights. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer and star, proves dedication can help anyone be successful, no matter his roots. He worked on this masterpiece for several years and produced about five different drafts. The upbeat mix of salsa, hip-hop, and clever song lyrics draws the attention of diverse audience members into the many worlds of “the Heights.”
As a publicist, I believe immigrants from all over can relate to the hardships exemplified here in trying to raise a family in America. New York City is a melting pot of all kinds of nationalities and travelers. I would promote this show to any tourist or local because Miranda’s lyrics playfully spin on other backgrounds. The freestyle rap and Broadway-style singing work together beautifully to attract all ages. Web site ads placed online and aiming at travelers to New York City will grab the attention of visitors from any country. Just try leaving the theater without singing the catchy tunes or dancing through the crowded streets of Time Square!
I also believe students are a great target for “In the Heights” due to the inspiring message displayed on and off the stage. It is true; you can surpass any obstacles in this world to accomplish your goals! With all of the starving artists and students in the city, luckily, there are great student discount tickets available for purchase. ¡No me diga!
